All new international, European and exchange students are invited to attend an induction and welcome meeting organised by the International Office and the English Language Study Unit. This takes place during the first week of the Autumn Term.
Each meeting will consist of an induction presentation followed by a buffet reception. Separate meetings will be held for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught students as follows:
Undergraduates and Exchange students - Monday 3 October
- 6.15pm Induction and Welcome (James France Lecture Theatre CC0.11)
- 7.30pm Buffet Reception (James France Exhibition Area)
Postgraduates - Tuesday 4 October
- 6.15pm Induction and Welcome (James France Lecture Theatre CC0.11)
- 7.30pm Buffet Reception (James France Exhibition Area)
Each induction session will include information about:
- Support Services for International Students
- Local Religious Groups & Organisations
- NHS Medical & Dental Services
- Transport, Mail & Telephones
- Personal & Road Safety
- Shopping
- Opening a Bank Account
- Police Registration
- Helping You Extend Your Visa
- Understanding Culture Shock
A useful information pack will also be made available to all those attending.
Students who have attended a pre-sessional English language programme are asked NOT to attend these induction presentations. This is because the pre-sessional English language programme has already included your international induction information. Furthermore, health and safety restrictions to the numbers of students allowed in this venue means that there is only sufficient space for those who have not already attended a pre-sessional programme.
Postgraduate Research students will be invited to a separate induction programme offered by staff development.
